Синопсис
Made during the Howard Hughes regime at RKO, this unwieldy melodrama shows signs of the great one's tinkerings: scenes don't make sense, some exteriors were obviously filmed indoors, cast members come and go, and Robert Mitchum looks bored. However, the whole is still entertaining, with a fine sense of parody that has won the movie quite a cult following, although, interestingly, that following hasn't spread to director John Farrow, who did a fine tongue-in-cheek rescue job on the film. Mitchum's relationship with Jane Russell is genuinely provocative, but the movie is hijacked by Vincent Price at his posturing best, playing an actor. At two hours long, it all becomes a little tiresome, but there's a good 90-minute film in there longing to get out.
