Gray Sheridan and his domineering mother Shirley run the family wine estate ten years after the bitter end of his affair with poor farmer's daughter Julianna Mason, who lost his baby, made a fortune in the New York wine trade with her brother Trevor and now returns to Waiheke island, seeking revenge by ruining the Sheridans, having anonymously bought a majority share in their fine estate. Julianna's father committed suicide by arson after losing his land, ruined by the Sheridans so they could expand. Julianna has a lawyer give the Sheridans notice to move out after the management switch, but meeting Gray, now engaged to her former best friend prosecutor Pam, it starts dawning that blind revenge will bring only losers, unlike rekindling feelings for Gray.
