INHALT
A minor league film noir, tightly directed by John Brahm and starring Laraine Day as the little girl who allegedly stole a locket and whose kleptomania as a woman leads to murder, suicide and nervous breakdowns for everyone around her. Every flashbacked scene is a crisis, every performance over the top. Ms Day, a devout Mormon who never smoked or drank coffee, was on loan to RKO from MGM, where getting engaged to Dr Kildare (played by Lew Ayres) had made her a star. Here she is convincingly neurotic, while Robert Mitchum gives her solid support as the first of her men to crack.
